I'm considering purchasing a TV in the US and want to make sure it also works in UK. The model is a Samsung 32" Class, 1080p, 120Hz, LED LCD HDTV.

It will only work if you buy certain additional equipment. Read on for why...
The mains voltage is 120v 60Hz in the USA and 230v 50Hz in the UK. The frequency difference is irrelevant but the voltage difference will destroy the television. To correct this you will have to buy an auto-transformer (voltage converter). These cost about £50 from www.maplin.co.uk.
The USA television system is different from that used in the UK. Their SD scanning rate is 525lines/60Hz, the UK is 625/50Hz.
The number of HD scan lines are the same for both UK and USA but the scanning frequencies are still different. The tv set's 120Hz is an internally generated rate, what comes from the broadcaster's transmitter is 60Hz in the USA and 50Hz in the UK. This could cause some judder issues.
The USA colour transmission system is NTSC, the UK uses PAL. This means that the tv will find it almost impossible to correctly resolve colour information. The result could be some interesting artistic effects. If you watch news bulletins where they show live clips from US television you sometimes see colour distortion artifacts - and that's with expensive broadcast quality conversion equipment.
There is always a difference in the radio frequencies between the picture and sound signals on all broadcast television. The television set's tuners are designed to search for a channel's picture and sound signal "pairs" at this set distance apart. The USA and UK sound/picture differentials are not the same so your set may pick up picture and no sound, or sound without picture.
The only certain way that you can make this American tv set work here will be to feed it only from a cable or satellite box, and use the box as a tuner. The American tv set probably won't have a SCART socket (for some odd reason they never took up the system, probably because they didn't invent it). You would be best looking for a cable HD or Sky HD box and connecting via an HDMI lead.
You will also have to pay shipping and warehouse charges, and Customs Duty on your television set even though it's for your own use.
The costs and messing about of doing all this may make it financially not worth while for you to import an American tv set.
