Connect VGA laptop to HDMI Emerson Flat TV?
My friend has a 32" Emerson Flat Screen TV with the HDMI 1, HDMI 2, Video, and Component ports. The instruction manual calls for an HDMI-DVI conversion cable to connect it from his Acer laptop, which has VGA ports. Is there a cord or cable that he can use so that the VGA ports will work for the tv because the laptop does not have a DVI port for the cable to plug into. Any advice on cables at a reasonable price is very much appreciated.
A cord, no. VGA is analog, HDMI is digital. What is needed is a VGA to HDMI box.
The other poster mentioned a VGA/DVI cable. Such cables work becasue DVI has two signals, analog and digital (called DVI-I). Such cables or adapters connect only the DVI-I analog lines to VGA. A DVI to HDMI converter or cable, connects only the digital DVI lines. So there, those cables will not work for you.
