Help on HD TVs 720p vs 1080p Sony bravia?
So I'm buying a flat screen tv and don't no a lot about HD TV.
First of all I want to buy a 32" but I seen a sony bravia that looked really good and its going on sale but its 720p. The sales person told me that a 32" doesn't need 1080p because it would be to many pixels on the screen which may cause the picture to be funny. Is a 720p okay to have than a 1080p on a sony bravia or should i keep looking for another brand that has 1080p? The sony bravia has a nice picture and i was comparing the 720p sony brand with another sony bravia and it was a 40" and was 1080p but looked the same as the 720p. I am mostly using it for my ps3 and movies. Thanks
God knows what the salesperson told you. The honest truth is that the 720p and 1080 thing all boil down to the resolution or detail that the human eye can resolve.
A TV that's 32 inches is small, the pixels are smaller than they would be on a 50 inch set, and to make matters worse, if you use it like a TV and sit far away, and not like a monitor close up, your eye can't see the difference between 720p which is 750k to 1 million pixels (720p sets have different resolutions) and 1080p which is fixed at just over 2 million pixels.
It's not about making anything looking funny and resolution does not have anything to do with image quality. Resolution is only the potential for detail, it does not describe contrast, black levels, color accuracy, lag time, brightness or anything else so don't get too caught up into it. People get into it like they do with megapixels and cameras and have no idea the image quality doesn't always go up when the pixel count increases.
I know money is always an issue. If you must get the Sony at 32 inches, don't worry that it's 720p, if it was 1080p and you paid extra for it, you won't see the extra detail sitting on the couch. I would advise that you save, or use the same money for a larger 1080p set. Sony is good, but over priced if you asked me. It's not like you are getting Sony's top of the line. I'd go for Vizio's VO370M. It hit walmart this summer at 597, then dropped 50 bucks maybe three months later. For a minute walmart dropped it to 497.
It seems to be back up though. It's full 1080p and it's 37 inches. 5 inches might not sound like a lot but it's 29 percent more square inches than a 32 inch. Another bang for the buck that was at bestbuy for a minute that's now gone, but popped up at Sears of all places is the 40 inch 1080p proscan set, great picture for the money. Last time I saw it at BB it was 499. Sears has it for around 550 last time I checked, or near that amount.
