I still have old fashion flat screen with big behind. Works Ok for 8 years. the other one is plain one.

It is very subjective.
LCD is lighter and thinner and consumes less power. There are also LED-LCD sets. They are not actual LED displays. They are LCD sets using an LED backlight system instead of fluorescent used in the "conventional" LCD and save even more energy while providing a brighter picture. LCD is available in a wider range of sizes. They resist burn-in more than plasma, generate less heat, and typically cost less for the same size.
Plasma offers a dramatically higher contrast ratio and higher brightness. For viewing in bright areas plasma is vastly superior. They are also typically faster. A faster display is best for fast action scenes such as sports, action movies, or video games. LCD sets begin at 60Hz. 120Hz is popular and some of the LED backlit models go to 240Hz. Plasma sets are available with 600Hz refresh rates. Plasma does suffer from burn in but modern sets are vastly improved over earlier models and include picture shifting technology to prevent burn in. Early plasma sets had a short life span but modern ones last as long as LCD. Most plasma sets have a reflective screen surface while LCD is more dull. As a result there can be a lot more glare with a plasma set.
Sharp is a pretty good TV. LG is awesome. Avoid Samsung. - this too is subjective.
