This is a review on the Sony KDL-26V4000. It covers it’s features and aesthetics and proves it to be a quality HD television set for the second room in your home.
I’ve had the desire for a nice new flat screen TV for quite a while now. However it’s a fairly large investment and I often feel like upping my budget so that my desires can be fulfilled – frustrating – especially as my collection of Blu-ray increases all the time, this year I think I will crack. The prices seem to have fallen a bit in recent months and there are some very good models below Ã…Â1000. After a lot of research I have narrowed it down to between the Sony V4000 and the Samsung A568. First I had to decide between an LCD and a PLASMA. Not so easy as the Panasonic Plasma i looked at was breathtaking. The picture has a film-like, fluidity and depth of black that I have not seen in a comparable LCD. But that plasma is a little above my budget, not to mention the fact that it is 42 “, which is a little big for my living room. Meanwhile, LCD screens have also made much progress recently. Two brands stand out in my opinion, Sony and Samsung.
The choice between the 2 models based on various tests that I have read on the net seems neck and neck. The technical characteristics are very similar. I tried to stay glued to the screens at the Fnac in Paris in the hope that they would eventually tell me who to choose. A closer look reveals that the sony is a bit more natural with it’s colour rendering and also a tad brighter. I think it wins, so look at my victor in a bit more detail.
So to outline the features briefly it has Full HD resolution, the BRAVIA ENGINE 2, 24p mode, 3 HDMI ports and a sleek design.
There are five models available the 26″, 37″, 40″, 46″ and 52″. The integrated tuner is compatible with DVB-C and is limited to non-HD.
Electronic processing is left to BRAVIA ENGINE 2 and The dynamic contrast is 33000:1 for all models.
As far as appearances go, the KDL-26V4000 is a very nice looking model, it has a shiny black bezel and although the grey speakers are not the most alluring of it’s features they are certainly no eyesore. The build quality is above average for a tv set sitting at the lower end of the budget. Connectivity is perfectly fine also, you wont have any problem connecting any of your peripherals to it. 3 HDMI connections along with a Pc port and Integrated standard definition digital terrestrial tuner are present. A usb port might have been the only thing to have been added.
By Sony’s usual standards the features are quite limited, although as stated before, the low price must always be remembered. As for the sound, it does have a Digital surround feature that emits sound from the two front speakers and creates a sort of virtual Surround effect.
The displays resolution is 1366 X 768 and is perfectly adequate, unfortunately it cant render images at 1080p 24fps, which is my most preferred setting on my Blu-ray player.
All in all, this set is fantastic for the price and will no doubt be gracing my wall shortly, it just goes to show that such a high feature set is becoming the norm now even in lower priced models.
