New Panasonic TC-P46X3 46" Plasma TV Look/Review/Specs
See Through The Lack Of A Simple Comparison Of Plasma And Lcd
according to The New York Times reports, Plasma TV In a few years ago consumers had a symbol of advanced technology, but it has some drawbacks, including on the image quality, life, power consumption, etc., which for plasma TV manufacturers are to be overcome problems. However, these manufacturers are also continuing to invest heavily in this area related to technology and manufacturing R & D, colleagues to constant innovation and progress to enhance the plasma impression in the minds of consumers, in order to avoid stagnant sales of plasma TVs.
Following is a plasma TV and LCD TV Between some of the more so as to facilitate further understanding of these two products
1. The screen size, plasma TVs are generally not less than 37 inches because the plasma pixels to a large number of small screen is difficult to squeeze into; and 32-inch LCD TV if you are more than out of economy, but the situation has now changed, because the next generation of factories have overcome this problem, such as Samsung and SONY The new plant will begin production this spring, 40-inch LCD TV, Sharp will start to produce a 40 and 50-inch LCD TV plant.
DisplaySearch predicts prices for the 4500 U.S. dollars last year, 42-inch LCD TVs may fall to 1,700 in 2008 dollars; the price of plasma televisions also dropped in last year's 42-inch high-definition plasma TV price 4200 U.S. dollars, to be dropped in 2008 to 1800 U.S. dollars, and is therefore almost the price of LCD TVs.
2. In the resolution, the smaller than normal plasma TV LCD TV, plasma TV manufacturers to mention in order to reduce costs, many so-called ED (enhanceddefinition) models rather than true high-definition models. Even if true high-definition models, plasma TV's resolution is relatively low, but analysts pointed out that a certain viewing distance, the consumer is not easy to identify the distance between the two.
3. In contrast, the plasma TV is better than LCD TVs, plasma TVs generally a contrast ratio of 3000:1, LCD TV 800:1. But in brighter areas, the contrast of LCD TVs will increase, while the plasma TV will become worse.
4. In color, the more plasma TVs can display a variety of colors, but the gap is narrowing between the two in the. SONY LCD TV Qualia005 recently published by LED (Light-emittingdiodes) technology in this respect it performs better than plasma TV, but this technology is very expensive, 46-inch Qualia sells for 12,000 U.S. dollars, while the Samsung 40-inch price of 9000 U.S. dollars.
5. In the product life, the LCD TV is better than plasma TV, which only need to replace the backlight bulbs, but the image color plasma substantially in retreat to the out of renewal. Fortunately, plasma TV now also improved in this respect, after around 60,000 hours use only obvious problem.
6. For energy efficiency, relatively high plasma power. U.S. ConsumerReports recently made a test found that 30-inch LCD TV power consumption of 133.5W, while the 42-inch plasma TV as 346.5W.

Should I buy a 40"-46" Samsung LCD TV, or plasma, or dlp?
Went looking at tv's today. I checked out all the brands. They best picture (color, pixelation, picture change) we found was Samsung (the runner up was Sony). We didn't like the black tones in the DLP, but the salesman said it's better in the dark. (I know the picture overall is better, but color pixelation?) The plasma and the LCD were beautiful, but I have read in user reviews that they have problems. The plasma has burn-in issues and the LCD TV would mute itself randomly. I guess there was a firmware update for the LCD that fixes it. Also, they mentioned Samsung has crappy customer service. Am I reading the rantings of a few or should we go with a different brand? PLEASE HELP! All experiences appreciated!
I can't speak of Samsung, but I can say a little about plasma and LCD.
Plasma burn in will be something to consider through the life of the plasma, but should be a little more a concern during the first 100 hours. That is normally a break in period. If you expect your family will be doing a lot of gaming on there, then I would recommend LCD simply because the games have static scores that can typically wear into a plasma screen. If you watch normal TV afterwards or activate the plasmas white screen then there isn't anything to really be too concerned about.
LCD is typically a little brighter and the whites are whiter when compared to the plasma. However, the plasma's blacks are typically better. With LCD though you don't have to worry about burn in.
One downside to LCD, or at least use to be a downside was the fact that LCD had a lamp to show the image. This would create uneven brightness and make the image viewed best from directly in front. Meaning if people watched from the sides they wouldn't see as nice of a picture. With plasma this was never the case because each pixel has its own gas that gets ignited. So like an old CRT tube a person can happily watch the image from anywhere they can see the screen without worrying about the loss of brightness and hence loss of picture enjoyment. With the newer LCD's they have improved upon the technology so much this downside has probably been eliminated, in which you should base your purchase off of what you like in terms of satisfaction.
To comment on DLP, the salesman is correct. DLP does show better in the dark because it's contrast ratio is much higher than LCD or plasma typically. With that said I think LCD or plasma will be the way for you to go.
Good Luck!
Edited to add:
Burn in does not lessen the life of the plasma screen. It can be annoying if an image gets permanently burned in, but the plasma is still fully functional and can still be used. Most of the time the burned image isn't noticeable when watching TV or DVD's.
