Samsung LCD TV Series 9

We have heard of the Series 6,7, and 8 and now the Series 9 debuts shortly. The Samsung 950 series or Series 9 is the latest addition to the Samsung family, which has many exciting features. Let us start with the 1,000,000:1 Contrast Ratio which Samsung has managed to achieve by using a LED-lit panel rather than the usual CCFL lighting. This, along with an improved image processing engine has enabled Samsung to produce a Contrast Ratio that is double that of their last LCD TV range.

Other impressive features include the Auto Motion Plus 120Hz processing, 4 HDMI ports, Ethernet port, 4ms response time, Ultra Clear Panel, Wide Colour Enhancer 2 and SRSTruSurround XT. The Series 9 LCD TV's are extremely classy and smart with sharp edges and a deep black glow. With a Touch a Color bezel design and a gray accent, your friends will be quite impressed. The TVs will be available in sizes 46" and 55" and on the shelves around August, perfect timing for lounging inside during those unbearable summer months.

Samsung are also launching a range of Plasma TV's which also offer the same 1,000,000:1 Contrast Ratio, the 760 Series. This series also offers 18-bit colour processing, automatic image calibration to adjust the image to suit the lighting conditions as well as the broad connectivity options as the Series 9 range. These plasma TV's will be available in sizes 50", 58" & 63", in August too.

Series 8 also has two new LCD TV's to add to the collection, a 46" and 52" model. With a dynamic contrast ratio of 50,000:1, Ethernet input, 4 HDMI's and built-in flash memory, this series will definitely attract the crowds with its more reasonable price tag, but still offering an amazing range of features. Samsung has managed to make a brilliant TV for an affordable price and that is what impresses us.

58" Plasma: Panasonic vs. Samsung?

I'm shopping for a 58" plasma. Can't afford the Pioneer so I'm told that Panasonic and Samsung make great sets. Salesman at Bestbuy states that the Panasonic is a better TV and that the Samsung has a 60 Hz refresh which will allow for motion blur like I currently get on my older model LCD sets. Is this true? Can anyone speak from experience?

I'm am also in the same boat as you are, and am currently reviewing my options, and hoping to see some good deals over the next couple of weeks.

First, the refresh rate is not an issue at all when it comes to plasmas. It's only a consideration in LCD's. So disregard that misinformation from BB.

From what I've been reading, Panasonic has very good black levels and better glass quality (i.e. less reflection). What you'll need to consider is the room / angles that you'll be watching the TV from.

I am of course waiting for a good deal, and if the price is right I'll go for either brand. I have also heard that the best deals for high-end TV's came about 3 weeks before x'mas last year.
