Panasonic TC-P50G25 Viera 50 Plasma HDTV Review
Panasonic wants their TC-P50G25 Viera 50 Plasma HDTV to be the "center of your entertainment universe". But is it good to enough to warrant such a statement?

The TC-P50G25 has one of Panasonic's best plasma displays in an HDTV of this price range due to a couple factors. The first is their 600Hz Sub-field Drive. To make motion more fluid and less choppy, images are shown at the incredibly fast rate of 60 frames each second. However each of these frames is then further broken down into 10 "sub-fields" each, thus reducing the amount of time each is shown on screen. This results in a smoothy motion.
The display, which is also THX-certified, also makes use of Infinite Black, which are improvements to the plasma panel and cell discharge that result blacks and other dark colors looking much deeper and contrast being more defined. Glare is then reduced in brightly lit areas, and dark scenes still look crisp.
This Viera 50 model takes advantage of several Viera features, the first of which is Viera Cast. This gives you access to several internet apps. With this, you can access youtube, Picasa, Pandora internet radio, Netflix, and more right on your TV. Connect a webcam (not included), and you can even make video calls via Skype right on your TV.
The Viera Image viewer lets you view all your HD images taken with your HD camera right on your TV screen by simply inserting you SD card right into the slot on the TV itself. And Viera Link allows you to control your Blu-ray, DVD player, home theater, and more with only your Viera remote. However, all these components will have to be linked to one another via HDMI cable, so be sure to purchase extras if you want to do this.
Customer reviews at Panasonic's website and Amazon.com were overwhelmingly positive, with the vast majority being a 4 out of 5 or higher.
Most customers made it a point to mention how good the display looked, that colors were sharp and vivid, that blacks were deep, and contrast was sharp. Several said they really enjoyed the THX settings the best, quite a few said they even liked this set better than LCD and LED televisions they'd had in the past.
It was noted several times that the TV was easy to setup, and that right out of the box, the settings were pretty good, though tweaking them to your own personal needs would still be your best bet.
A few folks thought that they sound quality wasn't comparable to the picture quality, but if you had it hooked up to a home theater, then this wouldn't be an issue. A couple others thought there should have been a few more accessories.
Probably the most noted comment at Panasonic's website was that customers felt this TV was "inexpensive", "exceeded expectations", and was a good value for the money. This sentiment was echoed by customer reviews over at Amazon, even going as far as to call it "Best value for money".
