Atlona's HDMI Swivel Connector Cables
Do flat hdmi cables really give you a better picture than regular hdmi calbes?
I hear the atlona flat hdmi and the azcable flat hdmi are superior to the regular hdmi cable. they claim the flat design provides less interference and better picture. any one buy one of these and try it. they say they are better than monster cables. both can be found on ebay.
The only advantage I can see to flat is they can be hidden under a carpet or the white version run along a wall/baseboard without being as visible. From a theoretical perspective I don't see how they can give a better picture from a digital signal.
Sure different cable will fail at different lengths, but as long as the signal is strong enough to be resolved at the output (and this excludes marginal cases characterized by sparking or small dropped pixels) the resulting picture will be the same no matter which cable is used.
There is excellent info available on the Bluejeancables. com site (See link, which provides further info links).
A 6' CM rated (higher than CL-2) BJC Series 1 Blue Jean cable costs $30 (Link 2). A heavily discounted (CL-2) 6' Altona HDMI 1.3b certified cable costs $53 (Link 3).
Since the BJ cable is 23.5 awg while the Altona is 28 awg bandwidth capability of the BJ cable should be higher than the Altona.
It's your choice, but personally if I wanted the best cable I'd go with BJ cables unless the shape (flat) or colour choice (white and black) provides an advantage. From a signal/picture perspective there just ain't going to be any difference.
In fact, unless you are running long distances or plan on in-wall installation, I'd suggest Monoprice cables will give you the same results at even less $$. See the last link for a budget vs Monster cable comparison.
Hope this helps.
