The advantages of using the HDMI standard cables
Majority of electronic giants around the world are regularly bringing up newer models of TV and large displays. New technology has led to improvements in picture quality, unbridled transmission of all types of data, multi-functionality and connectivity with different devices. HDMI, or High Definition Multimedia Interface, transfers the uncompressed audio video digital data pertaining to the user interface. It is actually a set of standard set of rules or guidelines which were together agreed to by major TV players like Hitachi, Panasonic, Sony, Philips, Thompson and Toshiba.
Let us uncomplicated the riddle of what HDMI is all about. The earlier TVs were based on analogue signals and showed square pictures, called standard definition, with aspect ratios of 4:3. The pictures were interlaced since the frames moved fast enough for the human brain to notice. The TVs that we see now are HD, or high-definition, making use of the digital signals, with aspect ratios of 16:9, making the picture rectangular. HDTVs also have faster refresh rates and therefore require more and quicker transmission of data, which is achieved digitally. The high definition multimedia interface prescribes the guidelines for making high bandwidth connections between the various digital devices. In its physical appearance it is a port at the back of the TV.
Most of the HDMI devices use only single cable. These cables can be used only in the condition that the connecting devices are compatible with high definition multimedia interface. There are a number of benefits of using these cables.
At first, the cabling itself becomes quite simple since only a single device is used. This considerably reduces the mess of wires that is created by the multiple devices and inter-connections. Secondly, it establishes connectivity with different types of audio-visual digital devices, like personal computers, TVs, blu-ray player, DVD player, Set-top box and A/V receiver. Thirdly, the number of remote controls used is also reduced, enabling a greater ease of operation. You may not require a separate remote for every device. Some of these can be done away with. Fourth, the various devices connected and running on this interface automatically select the optimal configuration on which to run. So, you do not have to keep changing the settings. Fifth, the HDMI switches remove the limitation of having only a single HMDI port on your TV. You can use this switch to make more than one HDMI connections. These allow you to choose and play your game console on it as well.
Modern electronic players like Hisense, LG, Samsung , Sony, Toshiba and Panasonic are increasingly developing the HDMI compatible devices and coming up with newer models. The enabling of the convergence of technologies and ease of operations is making these find greater acceptability worldwide. Every new HDMI standard is full compatible with the older versions. This permits the users to retain their old devices and at the same time, make use of the new standards on these devices.

Comcast HD DVR HDMI cable doesn't work?
I decided to switch to an HDMI cable for my Comcast HD DVR.
But I just get a black screen on the TV.
I have tried various settings 480, 1080 etc and turning the box on and off etc but it doesn't help.
The same cable works fine with a PS3 to the same TV (1080i).
Has anyone experienced this and know the answer ?
Also I saw someone said the Iogear HDMI 4 Port Automatic HDMI Switch works with a Comcast HD DVR. Is that true ?
I want to use HDMI because it has video and audio in one cable instead of the five you need for a red, blue, green video and red and white audio.
The TV is about 5 years old.
I had the same problem before but all I did was call comcast and they helped me fix it. I believe the problem was the hdmi cable. You have to make sure that you have one that works with your cable box. Hope that helps.
