How to get my 2wire 802.11gb wireless adapter to work with a Belkin wireless router?
My roommate has a belkin router and i have a desktop with a 2wire 802.11g/b wireless adapter. I cannot pick up her network but can get others in the area. Other people who come to the house are able to pick up her network just fine. What do I need to do?
My adapter is a USB adapter.
First I don't think you understand what you have. The 2wire designation is usually made for a DSL modem and sometimes for the DSL modem/ router combination. For your roomates system you need to turn that off. Your desktop also has to have a wifi adapter, either a USB adapter or the PCI type that is intalled inside the computer with the antenna sticking out. I assume that is working if you can see networks.
Usually if you know the SSID (router name) and the security key (if one is set) click Start, My Network Places and then the menu item "setup home/office network". Follow that and give it the SSID and key (if no key leave blank). That usually does it.
