Selecting The Best HDTV TV
Purchasing an LCD HDTV tv set can be a confusing choice for new buyers. Since the terms are new to the market, plenty of consumers have not learned what the difference is in the different tv sets and what to look for when purchasing a new one.
HDTV tv sets have high definition resolution on them, which means that the picture that it displays is more clearly defined than the older tv sets.
It also means that the TV set will always come with an LCD monitor, which means that it will be a flat screen, which has advantages of its own. HDTV tv sets are popular and the cost on them is quickly coming down so that they are more affordable to the average consumer.
Tips
There's several tips that are valuable in choosing an HDTV tv set. One of these is that the consumer ought to bring his own DVD for testing the TV sets for comparison. The reason that this is helpful is that the DVD will have images that are familiar to the consumer, so that when these images are seen on the different tv sets, the difference in the images is more readily apparent.
Although all of these types of tv sets are made with HDTV know-how, there is still a difference in the clarity of the sets which becomes apparent when compared using the same materials. There is as well as a difference in clarity depending on the size of the TV set, which can also influence the consumer's decision on which tv set to buy.
Another tip when purchasing an HDTV tv set is to adjust the different settings on the TV to see the way it looks when they are adjusted. Since the lighting in the store is bright, the store will often set the TV sets to the brightest setting feasible so that the picture has the best look feasible in the lighting in the store.
It is helpful to adjust the brightness levels so that all of the TV sets are at about the same brightness level so that the differences between the various sets can be seen.
Finally, all of the HDTV sets come with different picture modes and features that the consumer will need to check before making a final decision. There's often picture modes that are designed to help sports or movies look better when being viewed, so these settings ought to be tried to see what the differences are between the different sets.

Thank You: TVs HDTV Best Hdtv Reviews
Videophiles I need HDTV help... I am in the market for a budget HDTV should I go with Olevia or Vizio?
I am buying a family member his first flat panel 1080p HDTV and I would like to stay between $800 and $1500 and get a 40"-47" LCD. After searching and searching, reading reviews and searching I have came down to the following two TVs.
1) the ultra-affordable Syntax Olevia 42 in. LCD Full HD (1080p) Television model # 242FHDTV for only $899
or
2) the larger 47" Vizio LCD Full HD (1080p) Gallevia HDTV model # GV47LFHDTV10A for $1499
They are both the best priced 1080p HDTVs on the market but I need help on which one I should go with.
His viewing distance will be between 8 and a around 11 feet. I have not found much in the way of reviews on either TV so I need some help. I love the price on the 42", but I much prefer the size on the 47" so it comes down to which one is the better TV and why?
Thanks Alot!
Skip the LCD and buy a 50" 720p Plasma TV. It will produce a much superior image to any of the LCD's you are considering. In general, Plasma TV's will produce better pictures than most all LCD's 1080 or 720.
The most important aspect of a TV's image quality is contrast ratio. In this category, LCD's are awful, especially the no-name brands you are considering.
You can easily pick up a 50" Panasonic 720p set for $1300 - $1400 or so, occasionally even less.
There is no point in spec'ing 1080p, there is no broadcast content and there will not be as it is incompatible with US TV standards. Unless your gift recipient will sit less than 4 ft from the screen, they will never be able to see the difference between 720p and 1080p display even from a BluRay disc.
A very good reference for you to review would be the November Consumer Reports magazine. A well done assessment of the pro's and cons of LCD and Plasma TV's in this issue.
