Television Shows that Deserve Big Screen Adaptations
You could be easily mistaken in thinking that the film industry is in the midst of a creative slump while its not-so-distant cousin television is thriving with creativity at the moment. Shows such as Boardwalk Empire, True Blood and Damages have shown that television producers can produce quality programming to rival its cinematic counterparts.
Over the last decade popular franchises such as Sex and the City and Miami Vice have proved that there is a market to adapt television shows for the big screen. But living in an era in which we are inundated with different kinds of programming, which ones have the potential to be a box office hit?
Doctor Who
Film reviewers may rush to point out that there technically was a tele-movie of the sci-fi show in 1996 but many feel there is potential for the show to receive a full cinematic adaptation, bringing the reimagined series of Russell T Davies to the silver screen. A number of notable British actors have already guest-starred in critically acclaimed episodes, and the show continues to experience interest from countries across the globe. Unfortunately it is not known whether or not the BBC will allow producers to pursue a cinematic adaptation. The broadcaster had previously refused producers the opportunity during the show's extended hiatus.
Drop the Dead Donkey
Twenty years have passed since this newsroom comedy hit our screens, becoming one of the must-see topical comedies of the 1990s. Famed for its incredibly close topicality, its creators Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin had originally planned to adapt the sitcom for cinema midway through its run. However the plans were ultimately scrapped and instead the show was turned into a spin-off novel documenting the demise of GlobeLink News. Two decades later, we find ourselves in the age of 24-hour rolling news and speculation that the Donkey may finally be picked up again has been spreading like a wildfire reported by film news sources.
Others to think about
A number of other television shows have long been on the radar of different movie studios. Soap opera Dallas has been long rumoured to be in development. Hollywood stars John Travolta and Jennifer Anniston have had their names attached to the project, though it has not officially been announced whether the project will indeed go ahead.
As always, the fickle hand of Hollywood will ultimately decide whether these shows will finally grace the big screen. In the meanwhile, we can be thankful that these shows have graced televisions across the globe and that they are readily available to watch online instantly whenever we want, wherever we want.

Why does my rear projection big screen television seem to flicker, or like its losing power?
When I turn on my television (which is only about a year old) it seems to act like it wants to turn off, and makes a clicking noise. Some days it doesn't do this. Other days it will do this for 30 minutes and stop. Any reason why it might do this?
Hi, without knowing too much about the model etc, my best guess as an ex television engineer would be the clicking noise that you are describing i would say in the televisions power supply (inside the set) They normally have what is called a switch mode power supply which unlike the name has no mechanical switches. It relies on various electrical components. If it is intermittent as you say my guess would be a dry solder joint or maybe a capacitor either are not dear but sometimes locating the faulty part can take time.
