THE CABLES - WHAT KIND OF WORLD

It is official; you're making the switch from analogue television to cable service. The kids are excited and you're slightly anxious, wanting to make sure everything in the house is out of the way so when the cable technician arrives, they'll have no problems with installation. Fortunately, most cable companies generally follow the same installation process, so no matter what company you've chosen, this guide will be applicable.
Sometimes the age of your house can affect the cable installation process. Newer homes have often been pre-wired(during initial construction) for potential cable services. This makes things much easier. Under these circumstances, when a technician arrives, they won't have to remove sockets, drill holes and run cables throughout the area because the wall jacks have been prepared. Instead, they will only have to run cable from the wall jacks to your TV, and set up the cable box, or connect it straight to your TV.
If your home has not been pre-wired for cable service, the technician will have a bit more work to do. First, they'll run coaxial cables from the connector in the gray box outside (near the power lines) into the house. If your house (or apartment) doesn't have the necessary holes in place to run the cables inside, the cable technician will need to drill holes in certain spots. Once the requisite holes are in place, cables will be pushed through them and run along the baseboard of the wall up to the cable box and hooked up to the TV. Since many people want cable access in more than one room, the installation technician can also run cables into subsequent rooms (drilling a hole in the floor if needed) and connect it to that cable box as well.
Though the cable installation process can be a headache, finding the right cable service provider to do the work shouldn't be. Since these sites are focused on giving consumers the information they need to know before choosing a cable company, encourage comparison shopping and make it easy to do so. What cables do I really need to install to get the whole home theater experience?
Okay, I have the Plasma TV , HDMI cable and a stereo with 4 speakers and a center channel speaker. Other than the obvious of hooking up the HDMI cable from DVD player to TV, what else should I be wiring to really take advantage of this TV? And what cables? Thanks for your answers!
HDMI is your best bet, but it's not necessary if you aren't running HD audio or video. Surround can be sent via optical or component connectors.
If you want the "full" home theater experience you can get a Blu-Ray player. That'll take full advantage of your TV, giving you HD video. Otherwise you're watching standard definition signals on a high definition TV. If you want HD audio to go along with your HD video, you should make sure you have a player that can decode HD audio formats (Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA). Then go HDMI all around.
