Call for Help: Plasma TV vs. LCD TV: Which is The Best Choice for You?

Compare Plasma LCD Led, Compare Plasma TV Brands

Most people who want to buy a television for their entertainment purposes are confused with the choices of plasma or LCD or LED. This could lead to a lot of confusion in the mind of the customer. We will compare plasma, LCD LED TVs, which will help you make an informed choice.

There is already a debate among customers, as to which technology, offers better viewing facilities. The technologies used in these TVs are similar yet distinct and competitive.
In plasma TV there are thousands of individual pixel cells, which allow the electric pulses to pass through natural gases, which cause them to glow and produce light. This is the basic technology of a Plasma TV.

The LCD TV uses matrix of thin film transistors, which are also known as TFT and they supply voltage to liquid crystal filled cells sandwiched between two sheets of glass. When the electrical charge in the crystals untwists to an exact degree to filter white light generated by a lamp behind the screen through a small LCD chip,

The LED TV operates on the same technology as that of a LCD. The only difference in technology is the backlight, which changes from fluorescent to LED.

The contrast ratio, which is specified in most plasma TV, is 40,000:1. There are some models of plasma TV, which do not support this high contrast ratio. When displaying a very dark or black image the LCD TV is unable to match the contrast of the plasma TV.

The color display in plasma is better in rooms with normal or less lighting. Each pixel in plasma contains each pixel green and blue elements, which produce the color information more accurately. The LCD TV due to its anti-glare feature works really well in well lit rooms.

The plasma TV has managed to get the best 180 degree viewing angle, whereas the LCD TV has 120 degree viewing angle. The resolution of most plasma TV is 750p, while that of an LCD is 1080p, which is better in displaying the video image. Due to the high contrast levels, the fast moving image is visible better on plasma than a LCD.

LED TV can be technically called the same family as that of a LCD. Due to the backlighting technology used in LED the picture quality differs substantially.

There are different types of LED backlighting, which is used in various models. In dark areas of the picture due to the use of local dimming LED TV technology the picture quality is better than that of the LCD TV.

Realistic color is better displayed in LED than in LCD. The colored backlighting gives LED TV the advantage. The LED TV also has a better viewing angle when compared to the LCD and it is said to be match the viewing angle of the plasma TV.

The LED TV is known to last longer than the LCD TV due to its technology and most manufacturers of LED TV claim that it will last for 100,000 hours.

Projectors Aspect ratio, and compare projectors to LCD and Plasma?

I want to get a projector mainly for video games and movies, but every time I look the spec sheets say (aspect ratio 4:3/16:9) how is that possible I thought a projector screen should be like a TV with a fixed aspect ratio, a 42 LCD for example has a rectangular screen and is best suited for 16:9 but can accept 4:3 pictures but it will have pillar boxes on both sides is it the same for projectors and how can a projector have a 4:3 and 16:9, thanks for the help?

The projector has a "native aspect ratio" (16:9 or 4:3) but will project the "other" format as a subset (with black bars above/below or on the sides). See the link for a picture which addresses this (as an aside this diagram was intended to show why, for my viewing on a high resolution projector, I prefer 4:3 over 16:9).

The resolution of the program image is defined, and any subset (e.g. 4:3 image on a 16:9 screen, or 16:9 on a 4:3 screen) doesn't use all the available resolution. For example, a 4:3 image on a 16:9 projector doesn't use some of the width of the screen and while the vertical resolution (e.g. 480, 720 or 1080) is all utilized, the horizontal resolution is not. Similarly, a 16:9 image on a 4:3 projector can use all the horizontal resolution but only a portion of the vertical (the rest is filled with black).

Note that this ability to handle a different aspect ratio is similar to the ability of the projector to scale input signals to fit the native resolution of the projector. So, for example a 720p projector can accept a 480 or 1080 signal and fill the screen by scaling the input up or down, respectively.

As a final note, aspect ratios other than 16:9 (1.78:1) or 4:3 (1.33:1) -- such as 1.85:1, 2.05:1, 2.35:1 or 2.55:1 - must also be handled by projectors (or HDTVs) since these are common aspect ratios for films. All are handled the same way, but with narrower or wider bars above or below the "widescreen' image.

Any projector (or HDTV) only matches the input aspect ratio for one of many possible input aspect ratios.

I hope this helps.
