Is there any difference in picture quality of built-in usb port and usb to hdmi converters for lcd?
I am thinking of buying Samsung LA32B450 Lcd Tv. Someone i know is selling a slightly used one in reasonable price. It has a hdmi port but no usb port. This is the only drawback i find in it, because all other reviews are good. I do need to watch movies from my external hd so I thought i can work around this issue by using a usb to hdmi adapter e.g. http://www.cooldrives.com/usb-hdmi-adapter-dvi.html.
But is there any difference in picture and sound quality? will i still get the 720p movie experience?
Please help me out in making this decision.
I would rethink if I was you! You cannot (simply) connect an external hard drive into a USB port on a TV!
The USB port on a TV is meant to accept a 'memory stick'. It has to be formatted in 'FAT32' only (your hard drive will most likely be formatted in 'NTFS')
The port normally has a size limit of around a few Gigs AND will only accept certain 'container' formats 'JPG'/'AVI' etc!
Nor can you use the device you refer to. It is a 'computer USB to HDMI' converter, ie you need a computer to connect to, NOT just a hard drive!
To answer your actual question, ANY device in-between the signal will DEGRADE the signal, that is a fact of life. Without very expensive equipment you cannot 'improve' a signal, only degrade.
